Het exo.performance.network (www.xpnet.com) heeft op basis van de Clarity Suite OfficeBench benchmarktools een onderzoek gepubliceerd naar de performance van vier applicatievirtualisatie-producten:
- Altiris SVS Pro
- Citrix XenApp
Let op, het gaat hier dus om de XenApp applicatievirtualisatie en niet om XenApp als Server Based Computing oplossingen. - Microsoft App-V
- VMware ThinApp
De benchmarktools – op basis van Office2007 – zijn vrij verkrijgbaar en het onderzoek is daarom voor iedereen verifieerbaar.
De conclusie van het rapport is:
With overall linear execution efficiency on average twice that of the nearest competitor, it was a self-contained (i.e. agent-less) virtualization solution – VMware ThinApp – that delivered Microsoft Office 2007 performance levels most closely approximating a non-virtualized, native installation. ThinApp’s low average CPU overhead, combined with a conservative memory footprint and excellent OfficeBench test script throughput, yielded the best overall runtime profile as measured by the number of additional CPU cycles (vs. a native installation) required to complete each script pass.
Ruben Spruijt geeft aan dat het onderzoek in opdracht van VMware is uitgevoerd; ik kan daar zelf eigenlijk geen bewijs voor vinden. Hoe dan ook, hoewel VMware’s ThinApp er als beste uitkomt is het onderzoek wel door iedereen te herhalen.
